RELICS: A New World Rises is an immersive exhibition where vintage objects become homes for intricate miniature worlds built from LEGO® bricks.
A refrigerator becomes a cryogenic wellness resort. A Volkswagen Beetle powers an underground energy revolution. A grandfather clock becomes a time machine. Across more than 15 large-scale installations, tiny civilisations have adapted to the objects left behind by humanity, each one filled with hidden details, layered narratives and unexpected humour.
Created by LEGO® Masters winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler, RELICS combines sculpture, design, storytelling and nostalgia into an experience unlike a traditional museum exhibition or typical LEGO® display. The deeper you look, the more you discover.
Set in an imagined future where humans have abandoned Earth, the exhibition playfully explores creativity, consumer culture, sustainability and the objects we leave behind.
Loved by all, from ages 0–99, RELICS invites visitors to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the joy of curiosity and imagination.

RELICS birthday parties for ages 4–12
Celebrate with a unique birthday party experience at RELICS: A New World Rises. Perfect for LEGO® enthusiasts, each party includes exhibition entry with a museum guide, a facilitated plaster mini-figure painting activity and private use of the CMAG studio or courtyard as your party base.
Available dates and times
Parties are available on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the exhibition period, excluding the opening weekend.
- Morning session: 10.30 am–12.30 pm
- Afternoon session: 1.30–3.30 pm
Each party runs for 120 minutes. Please note that CMAG closes at 4 pm.
Pricing and group size
What your party includes
Your 120-minute experience includes:
- Full access to the RELICS exhibition.
- A museum guide to lead the group through RELICS and facilitate the plaster painting activity.
- Private use of the CMAG art studio or courtyard, depending on the weather.
- A plaster mini-figure painting activity, with one figure for each child to take home.
- A table for the birthday cake and presents.
- LEGO®-themed paper plates and serviettes.
- The option to bring your own party food, birthday cake and drinks.
- Complimentary exhibition entry for up to two parents or carers of the birthday child.
Cooking and food preparation are not permitted on the premises, and facilities are not available to cook or heat food. Birthday cakes and ice-cream cakes can be stored in CMAG’s fridge or freezer if required.
Example party schedule
This example is based on a 10.30 am booking. Afternoon parties follow the same two-hour format.
- 10.30 am Guests arrive and are greeted by CMAG staff. Presents are delivered to the studio.
- 10.45 am The group enters RELICS for a guided exhibition experience and LEGO®-themed activities.
- 11.30 am The group returns to the studio for party food, snacks and the birthday cake.
- 12 pm Children take part in the plaster mini-figure painting activity.
- 12.30 pm The party finishes and guests depart.
Exclusions and optional add-ons
The standard party package does not include:
- Catering or a birthday cake.
- Decorations.
Optional add-ons:
- Classic party food and juice for an additional $20 per person.
- Exclusive after-hours access to the exhibition, with the party held after 4 pm, for an additional $350 per booking.

Accessibility and sensory information
Physical access and visitor facilities
- CMAG and the RELICS exhibition are wheelchair accessible.
- The exhibition is located on the ground floor of CMAG and is presented across two internal levels, with ramp and stair access between them.
- The exhibition is entirely indoors and fully air-conditioned.
- CMAG has accessible toilets, a café and seating available throughout the venue.
- CMAG is a designated Hidden Disabilities Sunflower location.
- CMAG staff are available during opening hours to assist visitors with access and using the venue’s facilities.
- Self-service lockers are available for backpacks, large bags and other personal belongings.
Moving through the exhibition
- Visitors can move freely through the exhibition and return to previous exhibits at their own pace.
- Seating is available within CMAG if you need to take a break during your visit.
- Food and other drinks are not permitted inside the exhibition space. Bottled water may be taken into the gallery.
Sensory components
RELICS includes visual and auditory components, along with a hands-on activity space where visitors can build their own creations.
- Some exhibits feature flashing lights.
- There are no strobe lights within the exhibition. However, the introductory video contains a very brief animation with a strobe-like effect.
- Low-level ambient music plays within parts of the exhibition.
Audio description tour
An audio description tour is available online or through QR codes located within the exhibition. You will need to bring your own smartphone or other internet-enabled device to access the tour.
Low sensory sessions
A series of low sensory sessions will be held throughout the exhibition period. These sessions take place outside CMAG’s general opening hours and provide an opportunity to experience RELICS with reduced visitor numbers before the museum opens to the wider public.
