Join this talk on Zen Buddhism, including an introduction to Zen meditation will be delivered by experienced Zen Buddhist teacher Jeff Ward. Part of the exhibition Lindy Lee: Moon in a Dew Drop, curated by former MCA Director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor AM OBE. Zen Buddhism and Zen meditation are central to Lindy’s art practice.
Jeff began his Buddhist practice in the mid-1970s in Sydney at Wat Buddharangsee in Stanmore, Sydney. He took up Zen practice while living in Tokyo in the mid-1980s. After returning to Australia he began practicing with the Sydney Zen Centre and continued his Zen training, attending retreats over the subsequent two decades. Jeff currently continues to practice with Jeff Shore in Kyoto.
Jeff Ward has led the practice of Black Mountain Zen Group for many years. In 2017, Jeff received Dharma transmission as an independent lay Zen Buddhist teacher within the Diamond Sangha tradition from Subhana Bazarghi and Paul Maloney, both from the Sydney Zen Centre.
Jeff moved from Sydney to Canberra in 1994. He is a clinical psychologist and was a member of the clinical psychology faculty at the Australian National University from 1996-2007. He is also a current faculty member of the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Jeff continues to work as a clinical psychologist in private practice in Canberra.
