Hannah Arendt, a prominent writer of the twentieth century was born in Germany in 1906. Jewish, she fled Germany in the 1930s and went to live in the USA. She wrote many powerful books, including The Origins of Totalitarianism and The Human Condition. As a student she had a relationship with Martin Heidegger, considered one of the most controversial philosophers of the century. This film focuses on a major event in her life - in 1960 she went to Jerusalem to cover the Adolf Eichmann trial for The New Yorker. Surprised by what she found, her startling report caused a major controversy.
