CMAG Collection Outward Loans Program

Canberra Museum + Gallery (CMAG) considers loan requests from regional, national and international cultural institutions to display objects from CMAG’s Collection.

CMAG may also lend for other purposes, such as for conservation or provenance research or to give access to parts of the collection to traditional owners and communities.

CMAG will consider loan requests on a case-by-case basis received in writing addressed to the Director twelve months or more prior to the start of the loan period. This timeframe enables CMAG to adequately address the resources, condition and availability of the works in the loan request within a broader program of activities.

Consideration and approval may be given to loan requests received with less than the required notice period, however priority will be given to requests received within the full period of notice.

CMAG reserves the right to refuse any loan request if internal resources do not permit the loan to be facilitated in the required timeframe. CMAG aims to provide notice of the status of the loan request within one month of receiving the initial formal written request.

When requesting works of art by living artists, the borrower must confirm that they have consulted with the artist and that the artist is aware of how their works are intended to be presented and interpreted.

The borrower will be invoiced a loan fee to cover costs of administering and preparing the objects for loan.  Loan fees are typically $300 (incl GST) per item.

All outward loans must meet the terms and conditions outlined in the CMAG Outgoing Loan Agreement.
