It’s 1954 New York and a young writer (Linn-Baker) is working on a very popular live TV variety show. He is assigned the job of looking after a guest performer, Alan Swann, a famous swashbuckling movie star - obviously based on Errol Flynn. Swann (Peter O’Toole in a fabulous comic performance) turns out to be totally unmanageable and leads his young chaperone on a riotous tour of New York. The film is full of hilarious performances, with Bologna giving a wonderful impersonation of the famous compere, Sid Caesar. Delightfully funny film catches the frantic charm of early American television.
