A collection of pulp novels and original cover art from the collection of James Doig and the late Graeme Flanagan. From the 1940s to the 1970s a huge number of popular paperback novels were produced in Australia. These quick, easy to read stories included Westerns, crime, romance, science fiction and horror. The often risqué cover art was, and remains, a large part of these novels enduring appeal.
This often overlooked facet of Australian popular culture has been kept alive by collectors. Flanagan, a Canberran, was one of the most significant collectors of pulp fiction novels in Australia. Some of his collection has been passed on to Doig, who is an avid collector in his own right.
