Discover the rich documentary heritage held in Canberra’s premier cultural institutions and the contribution made to the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register by Canberra's librarians, archivists, curators and conservators. Challenge your understanding of what a ‘document’ is in a display that includes film, music and dance, oral history and digital media.

Visit the Treasures Gallery to view items on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register: the Endeavour journal, the Gallipoli Letter and the Mabo Case papers. Another item on the Register, the Sydney Theatre Playbill, will also be on display in The Sell exhibition, opening on Wednesday 23 November.

National Film and Sound Archive

This summer the NFSA celebrates the UNESCO Memory of the World Register through a daily screening program of internationally significant films from the NFSA collection. These include the world’s first feature film, The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906), a range of cinema shorts from the Cinesound Movietone newsreel collection and documentaries on Eddie Mabo, James Cook and the Waitangi Treaty.

The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies cares for the most extensive and best contextualised collection of Indigenous Australia in the world.
